Pinning Ceremony Held for ECC’s Largest Nursing Class
91ӣƵ celebrated the largest graduating class in the history of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program during the pinning ceremony held May 7. The department pinned 44 students just two days prior to the college’s official commencement ceremony on May 9. These graduates have met the education requirements to take the NCLEX-RN, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
“This year’s pinning ceremony is a powerful reflection of the growth and strength of our nursing community,” said Ami Denton, nursing program chair and director. “These students have overcome unprecedented challenges and emerged with the knowledge, skill and heart that define exceptional nurses. We are incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished and excited for the impact they will make in the world.”
During the pinning ceremony, two DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nursing Students were also presented. The award recognizes nursing students who have shown tremendous care, compassion, advocacy and leadership. A product of the DAISY Foundation, the DAISY Award was established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 of complications from an autoimmune disease. His family was touched by the compassion and skill of the nurses who cared for Barnes during his illness.
This year’s two DAISY award winners were Blair Younger from the ADN cohort and Jaimie Andrade in the Advanced Placement Cohort.
